I......really like that.

oh man, there could have been blood if Jeep did this instead. a unibody full ind. pickup from jeep? that wouldn’t have gone well

Gladiator? He barely knew her.
This would have done better than the Wrangler version will do.

I’d love to see a wind resistance comparison between this and the real thing. Let’ s speculate wildly on the MPG difference

I think there would’ve been a lot of flak from the hardcore Jeep fans, but look at Jeep today: three fwd-based crossovers, a RWD-based pseudo-luxe crossover, and the JL (and now the Gladiator as well). I think a WK2 pickup would steal thunder from Toyota and Nissan ( and yes, Honda) in a big way, but might also can nibalize RAM 1500 sales.

throw a ram face on it and call it a dakota

I don’t know that there’d be too much difference. Most people who add or remove a camper shell from their truck notice maybe a 1-2 mpg difference one way or the other (generally, a decrease in around-town driving, an increase in mpg when towing, and very little change when at highway speed.)
https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/lets-talk-camper-shells-and-mpg.38870/
So maybe with the GC-p ickup, you ’d see an increase in MPG due to a lower weight?

How about like the Comanche with unibody cab then frame rails under the bed?

This would be the “lifestyle” Dakota they promised a couple years ago.

I’m kinda prone to agree.

They could pull it off, but as evidenced by the fact Jeep couldn’t be bothered to make unique rear doors for the gladiator...way more work than they were willing to put in.

I swear I’ve seen some stuff in my life, but that would be awesome...
Y
ou would have to check your fob in the parking lot to make sure you get in the right one.

I meant more from the difference of the boxy W rangler front clip to the relatively aerodynamic front end of the GC

Good point.
I recall seeing all the engineering that went into the bed of Honda’s Ridgeline, and how, in essence,
the whole rear of the cab is one giant support structure cantilevered off the middle of an Odyssey platform. Jeep did a lot of work to bring the Gladiator to market, but it is very much NOT a ground-up project.

Oh, yeah, I imagine the difference between those would be vast!
What are t
he
projected mpg numbers for the Gladiator? I can say from personal experience that a 2012 GC with a V6 averages between 18
and 26 mpg.

Yeah, I think aerodynamics is having a very big effect on what cars look like these days. Everything is looking very same-samey.

Too close to the Ram midsize truck that should be on the way soon.
I say Jeep needs to do a fullsize pickup. Make it a 1/2 ton with solid axles. They could even use many of the components from the Ram Power Wagon.

It could be the new Comanche. I dig it.

Really cool idea although it would never stand out in the market like the Gladiator.
I can’t picture a whole lot of people clamoring for a beefier unibody Ridgeline vs. the attributes and styling of the body on frame Gladiator.

500% less butt fugly.

It's a nice piece of work but a dreadful reminder of how ubiquitous this style of vehicle has become...

And they could make a TrackHawk version fairly easily.

The official numbers are 17/19/21 for the auto Gladiator, which is surprisingly not as bad as I thought it would be

I know they did a lot of aero work on the JL. Its getting harder to justify driving a brick, and all the fuel costs that entails.
